Chris Aschman Trio

Jazz trumpeter/steelpan musician Chris Aschman enjoys a multi-faceted career as a performer, educator, studio musician, and arranger. A Baltimore native, Chris segued to Philadelphia to study jazz trumpet at the University of the Arts in 2004 and became a mainstay in the Philly scene. Since this time he has enjoyed a diverse career, having shared the stage with artist such as Paquito D’Rivera, Stanley Clarke, Dionne Warwick, Bakithi Kumalo, Chaka Khan, Kool and the Gang, Andy Narell, Ray Holman, Lotus, Dopapod, Tauk, and many others. Since relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2022, he has written a whole new set of original tunes, combining his loves of jazz funk, latin jazz, and steelband music into an exciting modern sound.

The KAHP /cap/ Band is a power duo hailing from the East Bay Area comprised of Kyle Athayde (Keys, Key-Bass, & Trumpet) and Henry Plumb (Drums & Vox). With virtuosic instrumental skill and the mutual love of a wide array of genres, they seamlessly blend jazz, funk, soul, r&b, pop, fusion, Kyle’s original compositions and more - in their own inimitable musical stylings. Witness a tight musical kinship that has been brewing for 10+ years, with a tangible enthusiasm that can only come from two longtime friends doing what they most enjoy!

The pair met circa 2012 while Henry was attending Lafayette’s Stanley Middle School and playing in the award winning jazz band under direction of Kyle’s father - renowned educator Bob Athayde. Post Juilliard attendance, Kyle resided in NYC but performed clinics at Stanley when in town. Henry quickly became enamored with Kyle and his big band (The Kyle Athayde Dance Party) and would later join as a member in High School. In more recent years, the two have logged many hours playing in duo configuration, and they’re just getting started.

At The Sound Room, Jazz Mafia joins forces with vocalist Tiffany Austin to present a set that draws on years of collaboration and their shared repertoire of original compositions. Tiffany’s versatility shines as she improvises, performs vocalise versions of swinging jazz classics, and even becomes part of the horn section, adding her voice to intricate, sax-inspired arrangements. This performance strikes a balance between soulful melodies and bold innovation, offering a fresh perspective on jazz and its possibilities.

In the year 2000, trombonist, bassist, composer, arranger, and producer Adam Theis co-founded Jazz Mafia – an eclectic artist collective of forward-thinking and accomplished players in Electro, Hip-Hop, World, Classical, and Jazz. Twenty five years in the making, Jazz Mafia is a prolific staple of the quintessential San Francisco sound, uniting creative and accomplished Bay Area instrumentalists, vocalists, MCs, composers, and arrangers.

This event features Vocalist Tiffany Austin. Austin's music and voice draw upon influences such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Aretha Franklin, yet she also infuses songs with her own signature style that is precise, intelligent, and soulful.

With a vibrant career that spans the jazz scenes of New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, and more, Eytan has performed at renowned festivals and household venues including BlueNote NYC, Dizzy's Jazz at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, The Anthem DC (opening for Lalah Hathaway), DC Jazz Festival, The Monterey Jazz Festival, and Smalls among many others. He plays for Matthew Whitaker and Langston Hughes II and has performed with acclaimed musicians such as Quincy Phillips, Lucas Pino, Mike King, Christopher McBride, Lawrence Fields and more. He also holds dual degrees in Jazz Bass Performance and Sociology from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he studied and collaborated with jazz legends such as Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, and Eddie Henderson. Rooted in gospel and the rich lineage of Black American Music, Langston’s sound is soulful, expressive, and rhythmically driven, shaping high-energy performances full of passion, beauty, and joy. He has toured with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and performs regularly with Cyrus Chestnut and Ulysses Owens Jr.’s Generation Y Band. An in-demand woodwind performer on and off Broadway—most recently with A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical and Just in Time: The Bobby Darin Story—he is also a former Strathmore Artist in Residence and a graduate of the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead. Eytan is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, with a Master’s degree in Jazz Bass Performance, where he studied under the mentorship of jazz virtuosos Gerald Cannon, Ron Carter, Ben Wolfe, Donald Vega and Billy Drummond. With a vibrant career that spans the jazz scenes of New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area, Eytan has performed at renowned venues and festivals including BlueNote NYC, Dizzy's Jazz at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, The Anthem DC (opening for Lalah Hathaway), Smalls, The Jazz Cruise, and The Monterey Jazz Festival, among many others. He plays for Matthew Whitaker and Langston Hughes II and has performed with acclaimed musicians such as Quincy Phillips, Mike King, Christopher McBride, Lawrence Fields and more. He also holds dual degrees in Jazz Bass Performance and Sociology from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he studied and collaborated with jazz legends such as Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, and Eddie Henderson. When he is not on the road, you can find him playing regularly on the New York City scene with a variety of artists, including his identical twin brother and pianist, Gabriel.

The KAHP Band - Jax Jams

The KAHP /cap/ Band is a power duo hailing from the East Bay Area comprised of Kyle Athayde (Keys, Key-Bass, & Trumpet) and Henry Plumb (Drums & Vox). With virtuosic instrumental skill and the mutual love of a wide array of genres, they seamlessly blend jazz, funk, soul, r&b, pop, fusion, Kyle’s original compositions and more - in their own inimitable musical stylings. Witness a tight musical kinship that has been brewing for 10+ years, with a tangible enthusiasm that can only come from two longtime friends doing what they most enjoy!

The pair met circa 2012 while Henry was attending Lafayette’s Stanley Middle School and playing in the award winning jazz band under direction of Kyle’s father - renowned educator Bob Athayde. Post Juilliard attendance, Kyle resided in NYC but performed clinics at Stanley when in town. Henry quickly became enamored with Kyle and his big band (The Kyle Athayde Dance Party) and would later join as a member in High School. In more recent years, the two have logged many hours playing in duo configuration, and they’re just getting started.
